Bike For the Ballet

Sunday, August 7, 2011 In collaboration with the Augusta Sports Council, the Augusta Ballet presented the first annual Bike For The Ballet. Following a scenic ride on a modified ESI Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon bike course (a fully supported 60 mile and 25 mile option), cyclists and non-cyclists alike joined together for a special celebration dedicated to the athleticism of dance and to support the Augusta Ballet’s collaborative fight against childhood obesity. Formed with national and local science partners including Cooking Matters, a division of Share Our Strength: the Food Network’s number one charity, Augusta Ballet’s Anyone Can Dance & Cook Camp will empower local families to lead healthier lives via dance and affordable, good nutrition. Collaborative Dance in the Garden City events (2010-2012) like Bike for the Ballet foster a healthier, greener Central Savannah River Area. This event created a surreal scene for an excellent cause in downtown Augusta! The pictures in this video are of the “Do I really have to wear this pink tutu” registration shots and the post ride celebration at the historic Enterprise Mill catered by The Bee’s Knees. Manuel’s Bread Cafe and Tea with the Dutchess provided support and delcious cuisine along the bike route. TriAugusta Triathlon Club and various local bike shops provided participants, volunteers and pace guides.
